OEM, ODM, and Private Label Handbags — What to Specify

Buyers searching for a handbag manufacturer in China often use OEM, ODM, and private label as if they were the same thing. In the factory they are not. The difference is who owns the construction, and what is locked on the sample before bulk.

OEM

OEM manufactures your existing design. You send a tech pack, a physical sample, or a construction you already sell. We cut, sew, and pack to the locked sample: leather or PU, stitch, hardware, lining, logo, and packing. You own the design. We manufacture it.

OEM is the right path when you already know the bag. A photo is not enough. Pattern, measurements, and material have to exist in the factory.

ODM

ODM develops the construction with our pattern team, then produces it. You may bring a reference, a silhouette, or a market need. We make a pattern, a sample, and lock the program. This is product development inside the factory, not copying a third-party brand.

ODM is slower on the first sample and faster on later colors, because the construction already lives on our floor.

Private label

Private label starts from a factory-ready style — often one already in our catalog — and applies your logo, color, hardware finish, and packaging. The bag is yours to sell. The construction is already sampled, which is why first orders move more quickly than a full ODM.

Most first-time brand and boutique programs start here. Logo on an existing tote, crossbody, or top-handle, then replenishment of the same SKU.

What does not change

Sampling is typically 7–15 days. Bulk is typically 25–45 days after the sample is locked. Genuine leather existing styles usually start at 30–50 pcs per style. PU leather 300–500 pcs per style. Sample fee can be credited toward a confirmed bulk order.

Incoming material checks, in-line inspection, and a final inspection before packing apply to all three. Third-party inspection can be arranged against the locked sample.
